Prosper coke plant The DSK owned Prosper coking plant in Bottrop |
|
In the early 20ies a large number of small and inefficient coke plants has been substituded by larger modern centralized plants. The roots of Prosper coke works date back to 1927/28 when the plant has been constructed as a central coke plant. In 1928 four batteries, each one consisting of 45 ovens, were put into operation. Three batteries have been added in the 30ies, resulting in an output of 5000 tonnes of coke per day. The batteries and adjoining installations have been renewed in the period from 1982 - 1989 in order to meet modern standards of environmental protection. This modernized plant consists of three batteries with 146 large scale ovens, which are 17 m long, 7 m high and 59 cm wide. The plant produces 5500 tonnes of coke per day. In the course the plant's evolution, the by-product plant has also been modernized. A new desulphurization plant has been built in 1982, a new benzole plant in 1998 and a process to generate hydrogen from coke gas has been implemented. The Prosper coke plant has been a platform for experimental installations for many years, and helped to develop modern coking technologies and give a better understanding of the coking process. Examples: coal pre-heating, optimization of the charging process, experimental ovens up to 85 cm wide. |
